My 1996 Ford Windstar, a project that's been coming together longer than what I ever expected but when
you start out with a bone stock vehicle and start doing more modifications than the factory ever imagined,
you run into problems no matter what the case might be. When it's finished, it'll be 100% streetable yet
more full of excitement than what you could ever imagine packed into a minivan. My Windstar's 3.8 liter
went from naturally aspirated the supercharged and that meant pulling out the factory computer and
finding an electronic engine control computer that would work not only with the engine but also the ADOX
transaxle. The answer was finding an EEC out of a two year later (1998) Windstar. People might question
why someone would go to this expense but the answer is easy for me; having vehicles that not only look
good but perform at the same level has always been my passion and something I've enjoyed all my life
just as much of others might enjoy out of life by doing whatever gets there adrenaline rushing. Just like
Wile E. Coyote who never gives up until he had that elusive Road Runner by the throat saying,
"beep-beep" myself while giving 110% to whatever I'm doing while always wanting to be a survivor per
se. Never giving up and never giving in because life finds a totally new meaning when you come close to
losing everything imaginable under the sun.
If the thought has crossed your mind, "Why pour money into a Windstar?" Here's the short version;
roughly twenty-six years ago I was in a MVA (motor vehicle accident) and in doing so, I broke my neck
which left me paralyzed from roughly the shoulders/upper chest area down. Prior to my accident I always
enjoyed going drag racing whether it was up to track or on a very desolate country road, if it wasn't in a
safe place we'd be racing, through mountainous switchbacks along straightaways, it was an addiction that
was shared by all of us! In my "prior life" I was an automotive technician with a degree in
automotive/diesel technology and business management that I received while attending University of
Northwestern Ohio (formerly Northwestern Ohio Automotive Business College) in Lima Ohio or you can
click on their website address: http://www.unoh.edu/ A career building college where you'll learn more
about automotive and diesel technology, business and the list goes on but I can't say enough good
things about them. All my life, thrills and love that came with working on anything with four wheels was
much more than just a passion, the more horsepower, the happier I was. With owning a total of three
1969 Mustang Mach 1's with engines ranging from a not too overpowered 351W yet it would get with the
program when the gas pedal was pressed. From the mild-mannered 351W it went on to owning another
Mach 1 with a 390 cubic inch, 320 HP and then beast of them all, my 428 Cobra Jet. Once you're bitten
by the horsepower bug, it's a feeling that never leaves your body nor does it ever dwindle away as it
keeps on building and building until you're able to fulfill that feeling once again and that is the reason
behind the need to continue building my Windstar. Always enjoy whatever you love in life and don't ever,
ever let someone tell you that it can't be done or you'll just need to prove thoem different. If you're
wondering more about me, feel free to visit my website at: www.brucewalz.com. It'll fill you in on most of
my life and maybe more information than you care to read but it's all about me surviving the odds more
times than I care to count.
Whatever you go through in life, never allow anyone to say, "You can't do that because you're no longer
capable…" So long as you still have it in your mind, you can do whatever you put your heart into doing so
never back down and never give up and keep moving forward as if you're still able-bodied! Life is all too
short to take the word, "NO" for an answer because that was the case, I would most likely be in a skilled
nursing facility with old people waiting in line to pass on and that's not the type of life I would ever want to
live. So just remember, the word "NO" is not the answer to take lightly no matter what the circumstances
might be because life is worth living and living means doing so by your own means regardless of what it
might take. If you need assistance, feel free to contact me anytime!
As of this posting; my Windstar is getting so close to starting that it's only a matter of a half dozen hoses,
clamps a thermostat and adding some fluids. Hooking up the battery cable and saying a prayer that
nothing fries nor goes up in smoke… Only after fires will I crack open a cold one in order to celebrate
another milestone in my life. January 06, 2012
